2008 - A New Era Begins - 4A Washington State Champions

The season began by naming a new Head Coach, Mat Taylor, after over a decade under the guidance of Steve Gervais. To get prepared to once again move up to compete in the newly reorganized Crest Division of the KingCo 4A league, there were dedicated hours during spring and summer football camps, competing and winning several 7 on 7 tournaments, and concluding at the annual team camp at the University of Puget Sound.

There were many firsts for the Skyline football program in this 12th season of Spartan football: competing in the Les Schwab Best of the West tournament against the 6A OR State Champion Sheldon High School; national ranking by USA Today, ESPN, MAX Preps and others; securing the KingCo4A Championship in a nationally televised ESPNU home game; posting (5) shutout games, with a season scoring of 514 points to opponents total of 77; numerous individual honors as the 4A KingCo Conference, Seattle Times, Tacoma News Tribune, Gatorade and others chose their all state players.

The Spartans had another perfect 14-0 season defeating rival Issaquah to bring home the 4A State title in another first for the WIAA - two teams from the same school district competing for the championship. It was also the first team in WA State history that a team won back to back titles in two different (3A 2007/4A 2008) divisions.

2007 - Prepare for Glory - 3A Washington State Champions

For 10 months prior to the start of the season, Spartan players worked hard once again to prepare. Their commitment and dedication to being in the best shape to face their opponents was the priority of each individual athlete. Their goals were set high - Dominate the State - yet very achievable in their eyes. And once again, they did not fail. Coming from behind late in the 3rd quarter of the State Championship game, they were again victorious with another perfect 14-0 season, bringing back another 3A state trophy home to Sparta! But the end of an era also marked this year, as Coach Steve Gervais moved on to a new challenge as a Division 1 college coach and a new leader was named.

2006 - In the tough times

Success is the synonym of our community for Skyline Football. From our growing junior program all the way up to our senior players, a tradition has been established and fostered by tremendous parent volunteers and community support. Regardless of the results, even a 6-4 year is remembered with great pride - Attitude, Work Ethic & Tradition Never Graduate.

2005 - Capture the Crown - 4A Washington State Champions

The 2005 football team eagerly waited for their season to commence. As the previous team fell one game short of the 4A State Championship, this team seized the opportunity to create their own history and carry on the tradition of a winning football program. Immediately following the end of last year's season, on any given day in December, members of our team were in the weight room and participating in speed and agility drills in preparation for their season. This hard work and commitment paid off as another undefeated 14-0 season for the Spartans is now etched in the history books of the WIAA and another 1st place in State trophy adorns the halls of Skyline.

2004 - Movin' on Up - 4A Washington State 2^nd Place Runner Up

As the season edged closer with each passing week, there was great anticipation for many talented athletes preparing to move to the larger 4A KingCo conference and new challenges. We reflected back on the 7 years of building a winning tradition, and we knew that the standard of excellence and determination would continue to help battle our way through this new level of competition. We were very proud of what these young men accomplished - a 12-2 season returning to the "big dance" once again, bringing home a 2nd place in State trophy.

2003 - Emerald City Kick-Off Inaugural Event

The season was a building year after graduating many senior starters from the previous season. This young group of underclassmen were ready for the challenge and provided many suspenseful nights of play as they grew together to carry on the tradition of past Spartans. Their opening game at Seahawks stadium in the Emerald City Classic against 4A school Woodinville was an opportunity of a lifetime. It was a huge victory for this young team who went on to a 7-3 season. Though they were edged out of a play-off berth, the players, coaches and fans could look back on this as yet another successful season for this young Spartan team.

2002 - Another KingCo Championship

The traditions and the expectations of what Skyline football represented was fully engraved on the hearts and minds of anyone associated with the program. Young men committed to excellence who were used to playing tough hard nose defense and explosive offense. In five short seasons, they had quickly become a program that commanded respect and recognition throughout the state. This year's group provided another thrilling season marked particularly by their performance in what will always be remembered as "the" game-the double overtime win against Bellevue. Skyline's attempted field goal was left untouched and a Spartan lineman ran it into the end zone for one of the most unbelievable finishes to any football game ever seen. The season ended in week eleven in the state quarterfinals--a 9-2 season and one game short of another match up with Bellevue.

2001 - Spartans reach State Semi finals

The team roster showed very few veteran starters. This new group of leaders had lofty expectations following a state title and they were not going to be underestimated for their ability or their desire to get there again. Unfortunately, in game one, they were handed their first defeat to a determined Bellevue team. After ten consecutive victories, the Spartans were back in the Tacoma Dome facing Bellevue for the state semi-finals. A very close and hard-fought game was lost late in the fourth quarter. Again, some very dedicated young men carried the colors of Skyline, ending the season 11-1 in what was becoming a tradition of champions.

2000 - FTT - First to Tacoma - 3A Washington State Champions

The fourth season of Skyline football was truly a mark for the 2000 millennium. It was a perfect 13-0 season which included a double overtime win over Mercer Island. The climax to the season was the unbelievable win over Lakes High School in the Tacoma Dome. The road there was not only memorable to the team, but etched in the hearts of all young athletes, parents and the community as they supported the Spartans road to victory. This year marked the first graduating class from Skyline and the first group of seniors to have played all four years in Varsity competition at the high school. It was a special group of young men who put themselves in the history books for years to come.

1999 - The Turn Around

By year three, Skyline had a mature and veteran senior class. It was a break-out year for the Spartans as they played in many "come from behind" games and ended the season with a 7-2 record, tied for second place. If not for a last second loss to Mercer Island, the Spartans would have played in their very fist play-off game. The season was memorable for the overtime victories over Newport and Issaquah. The Issaquah game will forever be remembered as the "wide-left" game as they missed their final extra point in overtime to lose to the Spartans in a hard-fought game.

1998 - The Gervais Era Begins

Steve Gervais came on board as the head coach in the second year of Skyline's program. He knew it would be a challenge to build this program with only six seniors but the team provided the student body, the parents and the community with a thrilling season of competition. Skyline defeated Cedarcrest and rival Issaquah in a very lopsided victory. The season ended with a 2-7 record, but everyone was now excited about the program and looked with great anticipation to the next year's season.

1997 - Welcome to Skyline Spartan Football

The inaugural year of Skyline Spartan football consisted of ninth, tenth and eleventh grade athletes coached by Dee Hawkes, a legend in high school football. With the lack of a senior class and just a handful of juniors, there was a dramatic learning curve required by our team to be able to compete at the Varsity KingCo 3A level. The season ended 0-9 but the experience gained that year by our young players was immeasurable.
