Ten games to watch in 2011

 

Mason Kelley picks the 10 must-see football games this season.

10. O'Dea at Capital, Thursday, 7 p.m. — Third-ranked O'Dea's 2010 season began and ended with losses to the Bears from Olympia. The Irish don't want a repeat.

9. Seattle Prep vs. Mercer Island, Saturday, 8 p.m. — It's a chance to see Islanders QB Jeff Lindquist play at CenturyLink Field.

8. Archbishop Murphy at King's, Oct. 21, 7 p.m. — Big names on both teams graduated, but that won't take the energy out of this rivalry game.

7. Puyallup at Federal Way, Sept. 9, 7 p.m. — A chance to see four preseason all-state players, including Puyallup lineman Joshua Garnett.

6. Mount Si at Juanita, Oct. 14, 7 p.m. — One week after playing Bellevue, Rebels host Wildcats in a game that could have major playoff implications.

5. Union at Bothell, Friday, 7 p.m. — 10th-ranked Bothell ended No. 9 Union's season in 2010; can the Cougars beat the Titans again in Week 1?

4. Eastlake at Mariner, Oct. 7, 7 p.m. — The second-ranked Wolves attempt to slow down Mariner running back KeiVarae Russell.

3. Kentlake at Kentwood, Oct. 7, 7 p.m. — Two points separated these rivals in 2010. This year, the eighth-ranked Falcons are looking for a different outcome.

2. Skyline at Eastlake, Oct. 21, 7 p.m. — Class 4A's preseason top two are league rivals, and the schools are separated by a little more than a mile.

1. Bellevue at Skyline, Sept. 9, 7 p.m. — The Spartans (No. 1 in 4A) meet the Wolverines (No. 1 in 3A) in Week 2 for the second straight year.
