 Skyline got off to a bumpy start on Friday night, but the 4A runner-ups fixed things quickly en route to a 62-27 victory over Liberty.

Trailing 21-14 in the second quarter, the Spartans kicked things into gear in the final two minutes of the first half.

Nic Sblendorio tied the game on a 13-yard run. Skyline then forced two turnovers in the finals minutes, capping them off with a 23-yard TD pass from Max Browne to Taggart Krueger and a 1-yard TD pass from Browne to Krueger. The score came with 22 seconds left in the half and gave the Spartans a 35-21 lead.

The Spartans continued to roll in the second half, scoring 48 unanswered points to take a 62-21 lead.

Browne ended the game with five TD passes and seven different Skyline players scored.

The Spartans host Bellevue next at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9.

Eastlake outruns Central Kitsap

Eastlake earned redemption from its season opening loss to Central Kitsap last season, routing the Cougars 35-14 Friday in Silverdale.

Running back Ryan Lewis scored on runs of 81 and 92 and 1 yard, finishing with 198 total yards on 12 carries.

Quarterback Keegan Kemp completed 11 of 22 passes for 212 yards and two TDs. He hit Zach Lucarelli for a 40-yard TD and Brian Quick for an 11-yard score.

Eastside Catholic bowls over Cleveland

The era for new coach Jeremy Thielbahr got off to a strong start Friday as Eastside Catholic made quick work of Cleveland, 63-20.

Senior Chevy Walker scored five touchdowns, scoring on runs of 1, 11 and 15 yards. He also caught a 45-yard pass for a TD and returned a kickoff 83 yards for a score.

Luke Lattanzio added a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown and Markell Sanders returned an interception 20 yards for a score.

Quarterback Trey Reynolds was 4-for-6, passing for 62 yards and two TDs.
