SAMMAMISH — Max Browne passed for five touchdowns as Skyline ended Monroe's first football playoff appearance since 1992 with a 59-21 victory over the Bearcats Friday night in a Class 4A preliminary game.
Browne, a junior, completed 17 of 25 passes for 263 yards with no interceptions for the Spartans (7-3). Nick Sblendorio had five receptions for 123 yards and three Skyline TDs.
Damian Greene ran 15 yards for a score with two minutes left in the first half to put the Spartans up 24-7, then returned an interception 78 yards to set up a Browne TD pass just before halftime.
Skyline (7-3) will travel to Mead of Spokane in the first round of the playoffs next weekend.
Monroe finished 6-4.

At Skyview 47, Issaquah 17
At Kiggins Bowl in Vancouver, Kieran McDonagh completed 20 of 31 passes for 338 yards and four touchdowns the 10th-ranked Storm (8-2) knocked out the Eagles (7-3).
Turnovers hurt Issaquah early. An early drive ended in a fumble at the Skyview 5-yard line, and the Storm intercepted a pair of Ethan Kalin passes.
Jack Gellatly had 111 yards on 26 carries for Issaquah. Kalin completed 14 of 34 passes for 219 yards, including a 57-yard strike to Reed Peterson for the game's final score.
Parker Henry ran for 123 yards and a pair of Skyview TDs on 19 carries. Next week, the Storm plays the winner of Saturday's game between Gig Harbor and Kentwood.
At Bellarmine Prep 37, Graham-Kapowsin 19
At Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma, Michael Rector caught touchdown passes of 53, 34 and 31 yards from Sefo Liufau as top-ranked Bellarmine Prep (10-0) eliminated the Eagles (5-5). The Lions will play Edmonds-Woodway in the first round next week.
G-K scored first on Drew Austin's 5-yard TD pass to Conner McLeod. Micayel McKechnie had an 82-yard fumble return for an Eagles touchdown.
At Olympia 38, Puyallup 21
At Ingersoll Stadium, Spencer Killman carried 31 times for 231 yards and three touchdowns to power sixth-ranked Olympia (9-1) past the Vikings (6-4). Olympia plays Lake Stevens or Heritage next week. Rhys Gervais threw a pair of TD passes for Puyallup.
At Union 42, Tahoma 7
At McKenzie Stadium in Vancouver, Union led 42-0 before the Bears (6-4) finally scored in the fourth quarter on Shane Nelson's 14-yard touchdown pass to Jason Smith. Beau Riggs had 88 yards on 19 carries for Tahoma. Brandon Brody-Heim rushed for 194 yards and two scores for Union, which meets Kentlake in the first round next week.
At Bethel 24, Bothell 22
At Art Crate Stadium in Spanaway, Ryan Smolko's 30-yard field goal in the third quarter was the difference as the Braves (8-2) won a back-and-forth game against the Cougars (6-4).
Justin Hordyk ran for two TDs and threw a 39-yard scoring pass to David Fontenette to put Bethel ahead 21-10. Austen Dahl and Danny Wilson ran for second-half TDs for Bothell, but the Cougars had a blocked PAT kick and a failed conversion attempt after their final two touchdowns.
Bethel plays the winner of Saturday's Woodinville-Curtis game in the first round of the playoffs next weekend.
At Edmonds-Woodway 29, South Kitsap 19
At Edmonds Stadium, Desmond Young carried the load for the Warriors (6-4) with 268 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-carry performance against the Wolves (6-4) from Port Orchard. Edmonds-Woodway plays top-ranked Bellarmine Prep in the first round next week.
