Peyton Pelluer is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker prospect from Skyline High School in Sammamish, Wash., and the 2013 prospect had a monster junior campaign. Pelluer racked up over 150 total tackles, including 122 solo tackles, for the Spartans. He was named to the Seattle Times and AP All-State teams, as well as Skyline's Defensive MVP.

And in a bit of an interesting twist, Pelluer also had two special teams touchdowns. "They were punt returns, technically," he told Scout.com this week. "One was a blocked kick I recovered in the end zone. And one was a bad snap, it went over his head. It was the Newport game, and he tried to kick it out of the end zone. He kicked it so low it was like a rocket right to me. I somehow caught it and ran right in the end zone. It showed up in the Seattle Times as an 8-yard punt return."

So what are the Spartans doing this winter as they work toward another Class 4A title run? "Just got done with (a workout) a couple hours ago," Pelluer said. "We're doing three a week, and it was a great turnout today. We had 51 guys today, excluding the freshman - so we're looking good for next year. There's lots of energy, lots of guys running around, no one is slacking off. Just the typical things you'd look for in a good workout. Our trainer, Kevin Chiles, is definitely a stud in what he does, and we're always looking to him for stuff. But nothing special - just a lot of fun." Pelluer added that he's also playing lacrosse this spring and working with a speed coach.

Pelluer was already named one of the four Skyline captains for next year, along with
Max Browne, Nic Sblendorio and Trevor Barney. As one of the more recognizable Spartans, he's getting even more notice from college coaches, as he's met coaches from Washington State, California, Oregon State and Washington during the last few weeks at the high school.

"I'm going to Wazzu's junior day on the 25th," Pelluer said of Washington State's interest. "I don't have anything else too solid planned yet. I'll have to talk to my parents and see what camps they want me to go to and what I'm interested in. Cal said they wanted me to come down possibly to their camp, and Oregon State. But when I've talked to all the coaches that have come by they definitely said to come out."

There's been big shakeups at both Washington State and Washington of late, and Pelluer has taken notice. His father Scott, played collegiately in Pullman, but also coached at UW. His uncle Steve, was a quarterback at Washington, and his older brother Cooper is currently a sophomore linebacker at Montlake.

"With the new coaches coming in, I obviously like (WSU Head Coach Mike) Leach," Peyton said. "He's a great coach. I can already tell I'm going to like what he's going to do at Wazzu. And I'm really interested in (Washington Defensive) coach (Justin) Wilcox and the coaches he brought in. Other than that, I haven't talked to as many coaches as much as them."

So could this end up being an in-state battle royale for his services, when it's all said and done? "I hope so!" Pelluer exclaimed. "You never know. Honestly, I'd be lucky and thankful and blessed to go anywhere. Football is my life; all I want to do is play football. When it comes down to it, I'll see what my options are and find the best fit for me."
