Skyline Spartans senior quarterback Joe Green is eagerly anticipating the season opener on Aug. 31 against the Kentwood Conquerors in a non-league football matchup in Sammamish.

“I think all of the guys are really looking forward to Week 1. I can’t wait. I really cannot wait,” Green said during a spring practice session on June 12.

The Spartans, who finished with an overall record of 8-4 during the 2017 season, advanced to the Class 4A state quarterfinals. Central Valley defeated Skyline 41-0 on Nov. 18 with a berth in the state semifinals on the line. Green admitted the loss is in the back of his mind but said his team has moved on to the 2018 campaign.

“We don’t want to think too much about last season because we know this year is going to be a different team. All we can do now is focus on being the best we can for this year,” Green said.

Green, who is currently being recruited by a bevy of collegiate football programs, remains undecided on where he will play football following his high school career.

“It is going to be a cool couple of months. Hopefully I can narrow it down to a school pretty soon,” he said.

Green feels comfortable being the signal caller under center for the Spartans.

“I think every year you just gain more leadership and more knowledge of the offense. It becomes easier to be a leader. It is great to help out the younger guys and make the team better,” Green said.

Recently the Issaquah Reporter had an opportunity to ask Green a few questions about his life away from the football field.

Issaquah Reporter: What is your favorite movie of all time?

Joe Green: The Dark Knight (Batman movie). It has been my favorite movie for a while.

IR: What is your biggest pet peeve?

JG: It is double dipping (chips), especially with guacamole.

IR: How many text messages do you send per day?

JG: I probably send about 20.

IR: Who was your idol growing up?

JG: Kobe Bryant. I grew up as a basketball fan and Kobe Bryant has always been my favorite player.

IR: If you could pick one person to go to dinner with, who would it be?

JG: It would be Peyton Manning. He played quarterback. That is what I do. I think it would just be great to learn from him.

IR: What is your favorite dinner dish?

IR: What kind of music are you listening to the most in your car right now?

JG: I like rap music a lot. I’m a big Drake and Lil Wayne fan.
